Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I woke up saturday morning and my left calf was in alot of pain and swollen, it feels like a pulled muscle, i googled it and i read one thing to make sure its not a blood clot,if it were a blood clot what would be the difference or should i ask symptoms
Hello... i'll try to address your concern Sudden pain and swelling is indicative of acute inflammation. Yes it is possible that you could have pulled a muscle. Did you hurt or sprain your leg the previous day. Since your symptoms could be brought on by muscle trauma also. A blood clot in the leg also known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is an insidiously progressive condition normally associated with an underlying risk factor. In my opinion it is unlikely in your case given your history. The best way to rule it out would be to get a venous doppler ultrasound of the affected leg. For the pain and swelling you could take anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants as advised by your local doctor. Hope this helps...
